The infrared camera captured the star in great detail. But this unique image is not only the work of human hands, but also the work of nature. Spotting a star at the edge of the Universe is beyond the power of even the best telescope. But in the case of Earendel, chance intervened. Between the star and the telescope is a massive galactic cluster. It distorts time and space, acting like a giant lens. It magnifies the light from this star by a factor of 4,000 and makes it look like a bright shining dot.
